History of Meadows Elementary

Meadows Elementary opened in 1964 on land donated by Dallas oilman and philanthropist Algur Hurtle Meadows, founder of what eventually became the General American Oil Company and a major benefactor of Southern Methodist University, including the establishment of the Meadows Museum.

Constructed at a cost of $265,000, the school expanded with additions in 1965 and 1973. A comprehensive renovation and further additions were completed between 1990 and 1992, ensuring the campus continued to meet the needs of a growing community.

Today, Meadows Elementary continues its tradition of excellence, serving generations of students with a commitment to academic achievement, character development, and community engagement.
